The Saint Albans Museum (founded in 1966 as the Saint Albans Historical Society) is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and heritage of St. Albans, Franklin County, and northwest Vermont through educational programs, historical exhibitions, arts & cultural performances, and special events. We are a museum…and more!

SAM offers customized experiences for visitors – as well as educational, tour, and social groups – for all ages and interests. Guided tours are available. Our permanent exhibits highlight the stories of the Central Vermont Railway, the St. Albans Raid/Civil War, local agricultural, medical and women’s history, the Smith family, and more. The third-floor Bliss Room is a unique and charming venue, ideal for a wedding reception, special event, meeting, or celebration. Overlooking Taylor Park and downtown St. Albans, our renovated historic event space features an updated audio-visual system, air conditioning/heating, a caterer’s prep kitchen, multiple seating and table options, and full accessibility with plenty of convenient parking. The Cowie & Miner Research Library is open to the public by appointment.

We are a member of the New England Museum Association, the American Alliance of Museums, the American Association for State and Local History, the Vermont in the Civil War Heritage Trail, and the Vermont Historical Society. The mission of the Saint Albans Museum is to collect and preserve historical and cultural material relevant to our community, and to display and interpret selected material from the collections for the education and enjoyment of the public.

You can support the preservation of the local history, promote community education and stewardship, and create a positive impact on our mission. Our members and supporters help bring the past to life, by making a positive and sustainable impact on our work in the community.
