The Vermont Granite Museum was founded in 1995 after more than 300 Central Vermont citizens met in 1994 and saw a need to preserve the story and memories of our community’s granite industry.  Since that time we have worked relentlessly to salvage the historic Jones Brothers Manufacturing plant, built in 1895, and turn it into a museum. The 28,000 square foot building, which sits on 11.5 acres, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Vermont Granite Museum currently houses 50 exhibits and hands-on activities, which provide experiences to explore the people, places, companies, processes, and events connected to Vermont’s granite industry. Museum exhibits and programming are supported by a vast collection of nearly 1,000 boxes of archival material and 5,000 historic objects. Additionally, the museum contains a caterer’s kitchen, theater auditorium, and stage for museum and public events. The grounds include an accessible 3/4-mile riverside path and sculpture park. We host tour buses and group visits, and we rent our facility for special events and conferences. Please call Scott McLaughlin at 802-476-4605, to arrange a special museum visit or to arrange an event.
