Beautifully landscaped grounds surround 51-foot tall, 100-ton solid granite monument marking birthplace of Joseph Smith, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons). Visitor's Center with theatre, historical and special exhibts, and artifacts. Historic ruins, walking trails, and picnic area. Free, open daily at 9 am (open at 1:30 pm on Sundays). Closes at 5 pm winter and at 7 pm summer (May to October). Beautiful Christmas lights and live nativity all December.
